Heat pumps

Heat pumps are a highly efficient alternative to boilers for heating buildings. They extract heat from the air or ground and transfer it into a building rather than generate heat through combustion. Technological advances have made heat pumps increasingly suitable for various applications, making them the ideal choice for replacing boilers in several scenarios. The main requirements are to have outdoor space for the external unit, indoor space for a water cylinder, and a reasonably insulated building. Another advantage of heat pumps is their versatility, as they can be used for heating and cooling.

Heat pumps are a highly efficient alternative to boilers for heating buildings. They work by extracting heat from the air or ground and transferring it into a building, rather than generating heat through combustion. This makes them more environmentally friendly than gas boilers. Additionally, technological advances have made heat pumps increasingly suitable for various applications, making them the ideal choice for replacing boilers in most scenarios. Another advantage of heat pumps is their versatility, as they can be used for heating and cooling.

Heat pumps are rightly the most popular alternative to gas boilers, but not every property can be easily converted. Heat pumps require external units, which rules out most flats. The installation may require interventions on the building fabric or the plumbing system. They are also quite expensive; even with government incentives, a fully installed system will cost in the region of £9,000.

So for flats, heat pumps are often out of the question: they are too expensive, and there is no space for external units. There are other products and solutions on this platform that will help fill the gaps. Heat pumps are often the best solution for new builds, large homes, and large flats with gardens.
